In Kontrol: Boy playing with toy gun is shot by sheriff's deputy

The boy pointed the gun at officers, who shot him once before determining that 'it was a juvenile playing cops and robbers,' sheriff's spokesman says. Witnesses report the boy was 15.

A boy in Palmdale who was playing cops and robbers with a toy gun was shot and wounded Sunday night by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, authorities said.

The boy was shot in the upper torso, said Deputy Ed Hernandez, a sheriff's spokesman. He declined to release the victim's name or age. A witness told reporters for KABC-TV Channel 7 that the boy was 15.

Deputy Jeff Gordon said the boy was airlifted to a local hospital and was in stable condition.

Gordon said deputies responded to reports about 8 p.m. that someone was riding a bicycle and brandishing a handgun. Deputies spotted the rider and ordered him to drop the weapon but instead, Gordon says, he pointed it at the deputies.

The deputies, fearing for their lives, shot him once," Hernandez said. "Later on, they determined it was a juvenile playing cops and robbers."

Imagine if this wasn't a cop, just some dude driving by. It would be be seen as being totally sadistic and cruel and he'd get thrown in prison. It's sad that just because someone has a certain title they're allowed to shoot children if they feel "threatened". I think it's ironic that the kid was playing "cops and robbers", he was obviously influenced by the actions of cops that people can drive around with guns and feel power from that.

We got tazer problems up here in Canada. But seriously who the fuck wants to be a cop in this day and age. I mean I would be paranoid as well. Kids playing guns just doesn't work nowadays. Guns look to realistic. All its gonna take is someone loading a super soaker full of bleach to really mess things up in the media.

I know plenty of people who want to be cops because they're bullies and have an inferiority complex. I mean, two of the people I've shared an apartment with pretty much worship the police for some stupid reason. It's a hard job, but it's also a stupid pointless job.

I played with toy guns when I was a kid, and I carried them around outside, but this was before realistic Airsoft guns were popular, and my toy guns didn't shoot anything (except for my Red Ryder BB gun, which just broke after a few shots anyway). Even though they have orange tips, everyone colors over it to make the gun look real (unless they're pansies who always play by the rules).
