1764

1764 is 42 squared. Here's what happened that year:

19 April (pretty close to 4/20 I'd say)- The Currency Act passed which prohibits the American colonies from issuing paper currency of any form.

October 15 - While visiting Rome, Edward Gibbon observes a group of barefoot friars singing vespers in the ruined Temple of Jupiter, a sight which inspires him to begin work on a history that will be published as The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

A book by John Cleland called The Surprises of Love was released.

The Mon(now)Arch(ark) at the time was George III. His statue was brought down in New York shortly before the beginning of the Revolutionary War, much in the same fashion as the statue of Saddam in Baghdad.
