Discovery's Apocalypse Rehearsal Show

(Sorry if my site is being really slow, I'm not sure what's causing it and removing the videos I had up isn't really doing anything.)

Places, everyone...

Discovery channel's new reality show: The Colony

What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? How would you find food? Water? Shelter?

The Colony is a controlled experiment to see exactly what it would take to survive and rebuild under these circumstances. For 10 weeks, a group of 10 volunteers, whose backgrounds and expertise represent a cross-section of modern society, are isolated in an urban environment outside Los Angeles and tasked with creating a livable society.

With no electricity from the grid, no running water and no communication with the outside world, all the volunteers have to work with are their skills and whatever tools and supplies they can scavenge from their surroundings.

That image on the main site looks awfully "prison-camp"-like... The title of this blog post is redundant, since "Discovery" and "Apocalypse" basically mean the same exact thing. I saw commercials for this when I had to resort to watching TV the other day when my internet was down. Didn't look too interesting, but the sound was off anyway... Could the upcoming "apocalyptic scenario" that the world's leaders are betting everything they've got on simply be a sort of "reality show", entertainment for them while they watch safely from their space stations/underground bases?

During one of my less pleasant psychedelic experiences, I spent some time in a prison camp in what appeared to be a barren wasteland. Watching Battlefield Earth reminded me a lot of that, as our prison guards were tall, dark and menacing and everything looked gray and lifeless. I don't know if it was genetic memory, a glimpse of the future or a vision from my astral body's true location (what some people would call "hell").

Red Ice recently posted this article about a robot which feeds on dead bodies (much like I speculated about a little while ago on The Solar Satellite)

Upcoming Military Robot Could Feed on Dead Bodies

Sorry, I don't want to be anywhere near something equipped with a "gripper" and a chainsaw. The fact that it wants to eat me is also a little unsettling.

With a little steampunk post-apocalyptic sci-fi thrown in, you've got the right idea.

I'm still wondering what "PackBots" could possibly be... Maybe they're little sentry droids that stab your ankles so you can't move while the EATR closes in!

Give it pig jaws and mix it with Boston Dynamics big dog.

Reminds me of what Napoleon was said to have done with trained warrior dogs. I haven't looked it up in detail. But before taking a village they would send in these super dogs equipped with just the right genetics so as to pillage pillage pillage.

Carnivorous "Big Dog" with a chainsaw? Welcome to my nightmares.

Napoleon was one crazy mofo.
