The F.I.G.

Here's a collection of accounts from Iranians on the protests:

'The Fear Is Gone'

But we are nonviolent. It is the Basij who attack protestors and set cars on fire. They do this so that the security forces have a pretext for using harsher tactics on the demonstrators. The security forces have knives, body armor, tasers and mace. It's as though Iran is under invasion by a foreign government. They have killed many university students in the past few days.

(not sure why I did the "F.I.G." besides standing for "fear is gone", and there is always the possibility that these are entirely fake but this stuff is interesting anyway)

I was in Iran this year for New Years and I could feel the riots bubbling under the surface. It was very clear to me that this was going to happen come election time. Our generation, (I'm 28) though they grew up in this repressive Islamic regime, have not experienced the amount of trauma that their parents had. They are restless and thirsty for change, and are willing to do anything to get it. The culture there is very much under ground and influenced by the rest of the world through their satellite tvs. In their homes, their TVs show music videos with half naked women and people living it up. Then they go outside and they feel more oppressed.
**The thought you write "The FIG" because we like to eat alot of figs!!

I like Fig Newtons... Didn't know people from Iran ate a lot of figs :P

There is a lot of evidence showing that the police are causing the violence and punishing innocent protesters for it. There is far too much violence being brought down on the protesters. The government's so paranoid...

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sorry about the bad grammer on the first comment, I was tired.
I just wish we (USA) did what the Iranians are doing when the whole Bush fiasco started back in 2000..... Americans have gotten too docile, they have gladly given their power away.
Remember your government needs you not the other way around......
